Stolen Projector!

Hi Everyone,
Once again some thieving scum has stolen a projector from a children nursery in the Highercroft Area of Blackburn. The thieves removed the unit in broad daylight while the nursery room not being used. I wouldn't care but this is the second unit to be stolen from the centre within weeks. If you are offered a cheap Hitachi projector with no remote that look like this one below please do the right thing and either call Blackburn Police on 01254 51212 or if you wish to remain anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Light up a Life Hospice Event

For the 6th year Gregory Audio Visual have once again provided the outside PA Equipment, Generator, and Music Players for the Hospice Light Up A Life Event held on the Hospice Car Park at 4pm Sunday 19th December. It was extremely cold minus 7 according to the temp gauge. Around 200 people attended the event.

Special guest Holly Steel from the finals of the 2009 Britan's Got Talent Show sat in the front of our van with her mum to keep warm until it was time for her to sing a couple of songs. Other people in attendance were a Scotish Piper, a Choir and Keyboard Player who braved the freezing conditions.

AGM and Lighting Service

Yesterday Gregory Audio Visual was once again asked to provide the PA, Stage, and lighting for a local company Annual General Meeting. We provided several microphones including wireless mics for Q & A. The event was also recorded for the minutes of the meeting and to review the questions from the floor.

Today was service, service, service, we have a array of lighting arrive that required full servicing, lamp replacement and optical cleaning. It's a dirty job with years of dust and grime on each unit. Before we cleaned each unit we checked to see what the general condition was of the unit, then it was PAT Tested and if it passed we carried out a full service. There was over 20 units comprising of Profiles, Wash Lights, Spots etc.... I the end apart from one unit they were all serviced, and ready for refitting.

Servicing Stage LIghting

Gregory Audio Visual serviced a schools stage lighting system which hadn't been done since 1985! Using 6 meter scaffold towers we removed the dust which was horrendous and serviced the lights and Rank Stand Lighting System which had seen better days, however after two days TLC, everything was brought back in service and cost less than £1,000. The drama teacher was delighted at the result and well pleased that the work was completed on time and ready for the schools production of Grease!  During the service we found a serious fault and was shocked to find a Lighting cable had been incorrectly wired with the live and earth connected to the same pin! See Below!!!!

How this passed a PAT Test God only knows! One thing is for sure questions are being asked!!!
If you would like more information on our servicing please contact us either via our website www.gregoryav.co.uk or by email sales@gregoryav.co.uk or give us a call on 01254 674444.

Christmas Nativitys

Once again Magic Moments Video the domestic video production company of Gregory Audio Visual has filmed edited and produced a series of Christmas Nativities for local schools in our area. This year was a little differant at one Infant school when we were asked to film a scene with a children and a real life donkey. Theres a old saying never work with children and animals and this proved to be the case, however I must say that the people at the "Only Foals and Horses Charity" were fantastic helping us with the donkey.

Emergency Delivery

We had a urgent request today for a LCD Projector and Laptop Hire for a conference this morning when the customers own equipment failed to work. Within 15 minutes of receiving order the equipment was with the customer!

One thing to bear in mind, do not leave your presentation projector and laptop in the boot of your car overnight during these freezing conditions and then take them into a very warm conference room switch them on and expect the equipment to work!!! - Dew (condensation) was pouring from this projector causing the lamp to fail and the laptop also to failed to boot up. At least the client had a backup of his presentation on a pen drive! :)

Childrens Day Care Centre Projector Install - Snow Fun!

Even the Arctic conditions couldn't stop us from installing a LCD Projector, 6ft Screen, Active Speakers and Breakout box to a Children's Day Care Centre. The job took 1 day to complete which included Power Connection and Network point for future use. The head of the centre said, "An Excellent Job" and appeared very delighted. For security reasons we have installed a security projector and alarm. If you would like to find out more regarding Gregory Audio Visual Installations, please contact us on 01254 674444 or via our website - http://www.gregoryav.co.uk/serv03.htm

Filming, Editing, and Donkeys

Today was a funny old day, started at 8am freezing cold to film local school children on location. Brrrrrr it was minus 5 but no trouble for the Sony EX3 camcorder. I understand the Sony EX3 was used in the TV documentary with Joanna Lumley about the Northern Lights, were the Sony EX3 Camcorder had to cope with temperatures approaching minus 30 degrees centigrade so my mere minus 5 was nothing!

Christmas is now upon us and it was cute filming the school children with a real donkey courtesy of Only Foals and Horses a registered charity in Oswaldwistle for there Christmas Nativity.

At dinnertime we got another hire job for yet 6 more Flipchart Easels with Pads and Pens. - Whats going on?

RB Entertainments came with a urgent order at 3pm and collected it at 7pm. We try our best!!! - Thanks for the business Dave!

End of Week - The Flipchart Easel Makes a comeback!

Great day on Thursday, another installation of Audio Visual Equipment completed along with several hires! - I was amazed this week with the number of Flipchart Easels we hired out! They were everywhere, does this mean that the humble Flipchart Easel, Pad and Pens are back on the conference agenda, instead of the Powerpoint presentation? - Even at a large event we did recently out came two Flipchart easels on stage. We needed to use one of our Sony EX3 Video cameras to project the images on the big screen as the presenter did numerous Rolf Harris drawings etc... To be honest he held the attention of the delegates very well with his drawings etc.....

We also had a job at a new venue for us "Ribby Hall", The first impressions were very positive and our client was impressed to, so much so we understand that we are to do 6 more events in the near future. Finally we have had a great responce so far in our Christmas Competition, it's not to late for you to enter so good luck.

LIghting HIre & Installations

Just done lighting hire at a local school for a presentation evening! They required a couple of T Bars and some Par Cans. They are a new customer and we look forward to being of service to them for the future.

Today has been a busy morning installing 2 projectors in local schools. One of the projectors was a replacement after some thieving scum broke into a childrens nursery and stole the projector by ripping it down from the ceiling. It was a White NEC VT570 Projector with a silver coloured projector mount. There is probably evidence of a Gregory Audio Visual Security Sticker being removed. The projector serial numbers have been "flagged" so anyone trying to buy a replacement lamp or remote for the unit will be associated with the theft. If you have information about this theft from the Fishmoor Area of Blackburn, please contact Blackburn Police on 01254 51212 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The replacement new projector has been fitted with keycode security and anti theft alarm!

Transfering Cine to Video/DVD and VHS Video to DVD Conversions

At present we are very busy with Old Cine Film Transfers and conversions of Video Tapes to DVD. With Christmas just around the corner if you are planning to have this type of work done, please bring it to us before the end of this month to avoid disappointment.

CINE FILM TO DVD HOW WE DO IT!

DVD Presentations are converted  from Cine Film. Using a single a single reflex mirror and a diffused glass panel developed by NASA for the Space Shuttle Program.  The projected image is normally captured at 24 frames per second on a Frame adjustable 3CCD Digital Video Camera, this helps reduce flicker effect on the capture. After capture the footage is edited using Computer Software, enhanced and colour corrected. If there is footage that contains an original sound recording we will transfer this as well. We can transfer 16mm Film, Standard or Super 8mm Cine Film, and 9.5mm. 35 mm movie film can also be transferred. Once transferred the edited footage is then copied to a DVD-R Disc(s). We always make two copies of the transfer a "Master Backup Copy" and a "Play Copy".

For those people who have video tapes, we also transfer the following formats to DVD Disc.

VHS, SVHS, C/VHS, C.SVHS, 8mm, Hi8mm, Digital 8mm, DV, DVCAM, even the new Flash Memory Cards to DVD.

Did you know we also transfer Photographs and Slides to DVD, and can restore damaged old photographs.

For more information about the media services we offer please contact studio@gregoryav.co.uk or visit our website http://www.gregoryav.co.uk/ or sales at http://www.audio-visual-uk.co.uk/

We recommend that you dim the lights when watching the cine movie in order to get the better conditions.

So Busy!

Hi All,
Sorry for the delay in updating my blog, it's just with the run-up to Christmas we've been so busy I haven't had time to update it. Since my last Blog we've done a few installs - replacing projectors etc and have a lot more work to do. One job we recently undertook was a upgrade to a lighting system for a theatre group. This involved removal and rewiring the old system with a DMX lighting controlled dimmer packs and new lamp replacements. We needed to hire in scaffold to get to the lighting rack and make adjustments. Hopefully the client will take our recommendation to have a electric driven truss installed, but I guess it's down to money in the end.

Aircelle Burnley had a "open day" and we supplied a few 42" LCD TV on K Stands with DVD Players attached. Over the next 48 hours we had 3 other large events to do, a  large event at Preston North End Football Club, and and in the end we got only 8 hours sleep in two days!!! after a good nights rest we had the Blackburn Harriers Centenary Dinner to cover held in the International Suite at Blackburn Rovers Football Club.

On the sales side of things we've noticed a sharp increase in the trade prices of electrical goods, while most companies are trying to hold off any price increases, I think it will only be till the New Year. With VAT going up to 20% and the high prices of electrical wholesale goods coming in, if your thinking of buying something like the new TV, BlueRay, PC etc I would do it now and not leave it much longer!!!

I know quite a few people expected to see us at the Witton Park Bonfire event this year for what would have been our 5th year, but in short things happened and while we are pleased that the charity event went well, we are very disappointed that the management at 107 The Bee influenced the Blackburn Bonfire committee to use a "out of town" stage instead of the local business!!

Today is another late one! We have a 15Mtr Stage to build with 12 x 10 screens, rear projection, PA, over 9 lapel radio mics, 2 hand held radio mics and of course the lighting for the event. So it time to sign out and load up for setting up. It's great to have "Young Criag Hessy" back with us to help out on this one, he's back to were it all started for him! - So come on Craig --- lets get cracking!
Bye 4 now
Nigel

P.S. Good luck Rachel & Kevin on your wedding day this weekend, and also congrats to yor brother and bestman Lee celebrating his big 30th as well! Looking forward to the party!

Audio Visual Business Week Ending 17th September 2010

Well this week started off to a flying start with another busy weekend of sales via our online shop http://www.audio-visual-uk.co.uk/ At long last I think the online shop for Gregory Audio Visual is starting to be widely recognised! In the AV Hire business we had quite a few jobs in! This included Large screen Projection and PA setups in various Hotels and Conference Centres around the area. It was our first ever hire to the The Thistle Hotel and Conference Centre in Haydock and it seems our client was well impressed with the service as the crew all recieved a gift!!! The install consisted of a 8ft x 6ft Fastfold Screen a Sanyo XP 57 Projector, Sound link, PA, Lecturn and Radio Mics.

That same day we also had to fit a 4 speaker PA System and Large Fastfold Screen a 5000 Ansi Lumen Projector to trussing in a Marqee Awards Event in Nelson. We worked along side Neil from Bright Lites who provided the Trussing, and Lighting throughout the Marqee.

You will notice reading my blogs that I never often mention Clients Names the reason for this is simple, why give the competition information on your clients so they can porch your work!!! (You know who you are!!!)

On the service and repair side we handed over a repaired Conference Center PA System, fixed three  installs today that where giving our client a proper headache, I had to laugh as one of the repairs it took me all of 2 minutes to fix! Projectors will not show the image if it set to the incorrect single input!

Anyway thats about it for this week, onwards and upwards as they say.
Thanks for reading and please don't forget to tell your friends about my blog!

Today in the studio we have been transfering lots of old video tapes to DVD, 3 Cine Conversions are next on the desk and the production of Baby Womb Music CD's!

Audio Visual Installations continue to happen in companies around the area Graham and Brown being the latest company to build a "In House" conference facility, it seems that the days of having conferences at venues such as Hotels are becoming a thing of the past as we are ever so busy hiring equipment and sets in the works canteens, warehouses and offices! Which makes you think maybe it time to think about investing in outside catering. Anyway another week done, lets see what next week brings us!

Beware of bad Installers!

Damaged office ceiling due to poor installation
Recently Gregory Audio Visual has been contracted to a number of jobs were "so called" installers have fit equipment (some of it costing thousands), so badly that on some occasions we have had to condem the work. Recently I was called to inspect a job where the install was so bad it literlly brought the ceiling down. The idiots had suspended a heavy projector, and security cage into the plaster ceiling this in turn dragged down the false ceiling.
and if you think thats bad just look at these other examples of shoddy workmanship....
TRIP HAZZARD!!! AN ACCIDENT JUST WAITING TO HAPPEN!

Not bad for a £2,000 per day conference facility!
Creative use of Gaffa Tape!
The Cowboys have been here to!
And now a video just to make you feel sick!!!

So the moral of this blog is?

Junior School Finshed

What a week last week was! Mad rush to install a Hugh electric screen custom made to meet the clients requirements. Added to that we fitted a Sanyo PLC XP100 to a Unicol Mount. The brief was that we did not block the schools window and that the screen be hidden away. As you can see from the pictures we successfully achieved this. The screen is operated via radio remote as is the Sanyo PLC XP100 projector. Finally a 120w per side sound system was linked. All the cables were fed under the stage with gave us quite a headache! In the end the Head Teacher loved it and I guess the first assembly of the new term started with a audio visual presentation.
Large 9ft screen with a 2 meter black drop added

Screen is hidden from view

For more details about this and other installations contact us on 01254 674444
